Their Memories

As I walked,
a thin breeze cooled the sweat on my skin.
With a quiet wish tucked in longing,
I released the story I had held for so long.

He spoke to me in his language—
not with words,
but with glimpses of landscapes,
and emotions seen through his eyes.

Even amid the hum of machines
and the noise of the world,
he showed me how to paint
a quiet day from the past.

He brought with him a trace of fear—
not by intention,
for he was always hopeful,
strong in frame,
but with a heart too soft to hide its ache.

Though he kept his chin up,
his heart was weeping.

He hadn’t forgotten the future,
but chose to live in the moment.
That too—was his gift.

When the wind fell still
and his reverie faded,
sunlight gathered gently on my face.

That beautiful light,
so bright I had to turn away.
One day, he laughed—
not because he was joyful,
but because his heart
could no longer hold
the weight of memory.

 

 

 

그들의 기억  

신배철  

길을 걷다  
땀을 식혀줄 얇고 작은 바람을 느끼며  
그리움 속에 작은 부탁을 실어  
지금껏 준비한 내 이야기를 띄워본다  

그는 나에게 그의 언어를 들려주었다  
풍경의 이야기와 감정의 시선으로  

커다란 기계음과 북적임 속에서도  
고요한 어느 날의 하루를 그리는  
방법을 가르쳐 주었지  

조금은 두려움도 주었어  
그럴 의도는 아니었겠지만  
그는 낙관적인 사람이었고  
강했지만 마음이 여린면이 있어서  

고개를 들고 있었지만  
그의 마음은 울고 있었다  

나중의 일을 생각하지 않은 것은 아니었지만  
오늘을 살아내기로 했다  
그것도 사실은 그의 선물

바람이 그치고  
그의 감상이 깨졌을 때  
얼굴을 감싼 따스한 햇빛을 느끼었지

그 아름다운 빛  
그 눈부신 빛에  
어느 날, 그는 크게 웃었다  
가슴 가득한 향수를  
더는 견딜 수 없었기에
